The Hughey Law Firm South Carolina Scholarship is a $1,000 annual award for a graduating South Carolina high school senior who has demonstrated a meaningful commitment to community service. Applicants are invited to submit a creative entry, such as a short video, essay, or other original work, that showcases how they have given back to their communities and the impact that service has had on their lives.

One recipient is selected each year, and the scholarship is paid directly to the winner’s college or university. Applications are accepted through April 1 annually.

Eligibility Requirements


To be considered for the Hughey Law Firm South Carolina Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Employees and immediate family members of Hughey Law Firm are not eligible to apply. Past recipients may not reapply.

How to Apply


Applying is simple: complete the online application form and submit the following materials before the April 1 deadline:

  1. 1A completed application form
  2. 2A current high school transcript
  3. 3A brief list of your currently active community service activities, volunteer work, extracurricular involvement, and any honors or awards
  4. 4A creative entry responding to the prompt below
  5. 5A current photo suitable for publication (sent only if selected as the scholarship recipient)

Creative Entry


We want to hear your story in your own way. Rather than requiring a traditional essay, we encourage you to share your community service experience through whatever creative format feels most natural to you.

Essay / Creative Prompt

Tell us about a time you gave back to your community. What did you do, why did it matter to you, and how has that experience shaped who you are today? How do you plan to continue making a difference as you move into the next chapter of your life?

Accepted Formats

Written essay (500 to 800 words)
Video (two minutes or less)
Infographic or visual presentation
Audio, song, poem, or spoken word (two minutes or less)

Files must be submitted in one of the following formats: PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPG, PNG, MP3, MP4, or WAV. Written essays should not exceed 800 words. Video and audio submissions should not exceed two minutes.

There is no single “right” format. We care about authenticity, effort, and the genuine impact of your service. A heartfelt two-minute video from your phone can be just as compelling as a polished essay.
