Sexual Assault Cases In Long Term Care
Nathan Hughey of Hughey Injury Lawyers has handled sexual assault cases involving long term care facilities. These cases appear to be on the rise, and there have been very disturbing episodes recently, occurring in Kansas, New York and Minnesota.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune found records showing the nursing home worker admitted to having sex with an 89-year-old resident. Further, the victim was kept in a locked psychiatric ward for days while the investigation went on. According to the court testimony, when asked about the rape, the nursing home clinical services director said, “Did she tell you that this was consensual? Did she tell you that she flirts with this boy mercilessly?” In the other cases, a man was sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for aggravated sexual battery of a woman while he was working at a long-term care facility, and a nursing home nurse arrested, accused of raping a 64-year-old patient who cannot communicate. Unbelievable. In ProPublica’s database of Nursing Home Compare deficiencies, allegations involving the world “rape” are mentioned 400 times.
We hate these kind of injustices, and we will fight for your family. If you know of a sexual assault that has taken place, we can help. We can fight to find out how this was allowed to happen and to call those to justice that allowed it to happen.
